know God: luke

  Luke 12:29-34
And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. 30 For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. 31 But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.
32 “Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom. 33 Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. 34 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Following Christ is not going to cost you something, it's going to cost you everything. Everything in you that isn't a part of the life of Christ in you has to be purified, cleaned out of your life. And purification hurts. Your heart and body may be violently object when something you love is taken away. But the pain of giving up all that isn't Christ in you shouldn't be something to fear but something to look forward to. Because each part of you that you give up, you get a part of Him. And the more you get,the more you become like Him.

Giving things up in order to come closer to God, to obey His word, and to refuse to serve yourself any longer isn't only holy, it's healthy. The truly strong and successful girl is the one who has said no to all the world has to offer and yes to all that heaven holds and even demands.

When God shows you something that's got to go, be quick to get rid of it. Don't whine about how much you miss it, don't wonder if it's really God asking you to give it up, just give it up with the belief that a heart turned over completely to Him is a happy heart. And your faith will be rewarded.Guaranteed!

This devotional caught my eye and it really stood out to me and made me think a little bit. This is something we should all challenge ourselves to do. Find something we need to give up to become closer to God.
